The 90 Day Health Challenge

In an era of diet programs, food supplements, and various types of herbal medicine, it may become very confusing to choose the right method for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Often, we are in a dilemma between what to try; what to follow; and what to stick to. The ultimate goal of every individual; nonetheless, is to find the secret to living a better life. Such a concept seems so elusive in this modern age; especially, where the public is constantly being bombarded with an onslaught of advertisements that promote options for health and well-being. Many people have fallen victim to various types of programs that claim to work quickly and effectively, with the promise to improve physical fitness and overall health. Few have genuinely risen up to expectations. However, a 90 day health challenge will prove to be life-changing.

Taking Up the Challenge of Change

In reality; while some of these advertisements may be considered scams, most actually mean well. In light of this fact; it would be easy to subject oneself to a strict regimen of diet and exercise, but only a select few succeed, due to the lack of proper maintenance and motivation. It is seldom that people last for more than 90 days, much less 30. Certainly, it is a health challenge that could end in the agony of defeat. The thought might have occurred that it could merely be the way individual live. The truth of the matter is; one who is really healthy is not self-immersed in a lifestyle of sex, drugs, alcohol, and other high-risk factors. A person who is eating healthy, exercising, and maintaining a weight that is proportional to their body chemistry will most likely overcome many health challenges. In fact, recent studies have shown that a 10 per cent reduction in weight can significantly decrease cholesterol, regulate the blood pressure, and ultimately improves longevity. It may be difficult at first; but, one’s efforts are never without rewards. A 90-day health challenge will seem like a relaxing stroll compared to what could be potentially gained in a lifetime of living healthy.

Rising Up and Moving Forward

One of the biggest problems facing society today would have to be laziness. Especially at the onset of globalization and the age of information and technology, it becomes easier to sustain the basic necessities from the comfort of the living room. Although this may be intrinsically good at its core, it does nothing to endorse the importance of exercise. This lack of daily activity is essentially debilitating society and increasing the chances for acquiring various health conditions, including obesity, osteoporosis, and heart disease. Inactivity may even affect the very structures that enable mobility to particular parts of the body. This; in turn, facilitates susceptibility to depression, insomnia, anxiety, and other related disorders that are linked to the brain. It would be wise to keep in mind the consequences of certain actions; as well as, inactions.

A Step in the Right Direction

The answer is actually so simplistic in nature that people; in their anxious search for the ultimate solution to maintaining a healthy body, tend to overlook the plainly obvious solution to this perennial obsession. What is the basic formula? Clean living, a positive attitude, temperance, and passion can miraculously transform an individual into an individual who is physically fit, motivated, vibrant, and glowing with a zest for life and purpose.

A Challenging Cliché

There are basic steps for day-to-day living which must be followed religiously. Upon waking up in the morning, immediately set the mind to a positive state. It may be as simple as being thankful for another day of life. Sometimes it helps to take a step back and look outside; welcome the morning sunshine and look forward to a pleasant walk during the day. If; on the other hand, it is raining, then be glad that the plants are being watered and that the dam is filling up with a much-needed supply of water. It may sound rather hackneyed; but the idea is to start the day with gratitude in your heart for all that one more day has to offer. Be sure to always nourish the body which has fasted through the long hours of the night, while asleep. Eat properly and at the right time. Doctors have even advised that during breakfast, one must eat like a king. This entails heavy serving of nutritious food which will give the body and mind sufficient energy to withstand the rigors and challenges that might come your way during the course of the day. This does not mean quantity but quality; one must have a daily dosage of protein and carbohydrates, along with fruits and vegetables. If it is possible, it may even be beneficial to eat low-fat or even non-fat food. At all times, one should be fully aware of the nutritional content of food that is daily consumed. Once this is done, set the priorities for the day and plan activities accordingly.

Living Better Everyday

Remember, whatever you set your heart on doing, do it well. They may be mundane tasks such as routine house chores, or office work; but, the ordinary becomes extraordinary, if done with a passion and an eye for detail. This could spell the difference between what is lacking and the satisfaction or psychic remuneration that comes with the effort. Nonetheless, physical activities must not be neglected. “All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy” would be an appropriate expression; however clichéd, still holds some truth. Therefore, whatever is plausible under the circumstances—a brisk walk in the park, a trip to the store, night swimming at the club, or just playing in the garden with the kids, should be part of the schedule for the day. Most importantly, one must try to end the day with a good night’s sleep. Temperance; then, must be the order of the day– the virtue that points to the discovery of the “Golden Mean”, the secret to a well-ordered mind, a physically fit body, a purpose-driven life, and the road to success and happiness!
